In his day, Vincent Youmans was every bit as famous as his peers Gershwin, Rodgers, Berlin, Kern and Porter. THROUGH THE YEARS, his final Broadway score, is perhaps his most beautiful and accomplished – The New York Times originally called it "felicitously melodious throughout, and in its mood, design and attempt to achieve a certain organic unity, far ahead of its predecessors” – yet it has never been preserved on disc.
Here, in its world premiere recording, a brilliant cast led by Heidi Grant
Murphy and Brent Barrett -- and an orchestra led by Youmans scholar Aaron
Gandy -- bring this newly restored classic back to life.
THROUGH THE YEARS, PS Classics' third recording, was released in the late
summer of 2001, when iTunes was still in its infancy. As a result, the
album was never released digitally, and because the initial CD run was a
limited pressing, the title soon went out of print. Now, fifteen years
later, PS Classics is thrilled to return its first vintage restoration to
its active catalog with the digital release of THROUGH THE YEARS, in an
iTunes exclusive complete with digital booklet.
