“Luker's warm soprano, which has added depth these
days, fits Kern's lilting melodies like a proverbial glove. She brings out
all the pathos in two of Kern's greatest creations, 'Why Was I Born?' and
'Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man,' as well as the worldly-wise melancholy embodied in
Dorothy Fields' beautiful 'April Fooled Me.' Each song is a simple valentine, an expression of devotion and
adoration that one longs to hear over and over.”
–Theatermania
“One of those CDs you can listen to over and over again … the perfect combination of composer and singer. You’ll want to listen to it repeatedly, immediately.”
–Playbill.com
“The voice itself remains a glorious one: silvery and strong, with notes that can thrill or be delicate as they linger in the air. But it's not all about being pristine—there's real character there, a personality that emerges, a knowing point of view informing her timing and presentation. She's equally effective whether bursting with joy, as in the title song, or making it sound like her heart is bursting with sorrow, as in the ultimate of laments, 'Why Was I Born?' (rich with mournful wondering). And her take on the tale of a gal who gives in increasingly to temptation as the days of a week go by ('Saturday Night') is a savvy comic delight.”

Rebecca Luker
I GOT LOVE - Songs of Jerome Kern
Broadway star and three-time Tony-nominee Rebecca Luker gives voice to the work of legendary theatre composer Jerome Kern in her new album I GOT LOVE - Songs of Jerome Kern. Drawn and expanded from her acclaimed performances at NYC’s 54 Below, which Bloomberg News proclaimed “as perfect a show as one could ask for,” Luker covers three decades of Kern songs, including classics such as “Can't Help Lovin' That Man,” “The Folks Who Live on the Hill,” "Why Was I Born?" and “The Song Is You,” along with more obscure fare like “Saturday Night,” “Not You,” “I Got Love" and "My Husband's First Wife." In her third solo disc for PS Classics (following Leaving Home and Greenwich Time), Luker -- joined by music director and orchestrator Joseph Thalken -- provides fresh arrangements and deeply personal renditions of some of the most elegant, moving songs of the Great American Songbook. It's a perfect match of singer and songwriter; as Theatermania put it in reviewing her concert, “Rebecca Luker singing Jerome Kern are five of the most beautiful words in the English language.”
