“It moved me greatly. There is a loving irony in the way that even as Rapp sings bohemian anthems about rejecting parental ways and control, he breathes affection for his mother in his own songs and echoes her voice in remembered conversation.”
–London Times
“Impeccably performed. This little piece has enormous heart.”
–London Daily Express
“Anyone who wants to revisit a piece of Broadway history with one of its original participants won't want to miss it.”
–The Stage (London)
“As moving and muscular performances of musical theatre as you'll see on any stage this year, their piquancy increased only by the thread of loss that runs through the show.”
–Time Out London

Anthony Rapp - Without You
a one-man show
Anthony Rapp's New York Times best-selling memoir becomes a stunning one-man show about grief, hope and triumph. WITHOUT YOU begins in 1994, with Rapp, then working at Starbucks, about to audition for a new musical called Rent. From there, Rapp movingly intertwines two stories: his experience as part of the original production of Rent (in which he created the role of Mark Cohen) – his audition, the casting process, rehearsals and the shared grief when its young composer Jonathan Larson died suddenly the night before the musical’s off-Broadway premiere -- and Rapp's achingly beautiful relationship with his mother, who was battling cancer during this turbulent time. Backed by a five-piece band, Rapp fuses a mix of original music and songs by Jonathan Larson and REM into a evening the London Times hailed, in a five-star review, as “transfixing in its truthfulness, an honest portrait of grief and growing up.” Now WITHOUT YOU, direct from its engagement at London’s Menier Chocolate Factory, has been preserved in a new studio recording showcasing what Time Out London called “as moving and muscular performances of musical theatre as you’ll see on any stage this year.”
